Syncerety Smiley has one of the most impactful roles in her community, working with the Head Start program under the 汤头条 Extension Service in Harrison County. 聽

A teacher at the 汤头条 Extension Gilbert Mason Head Start Center, she works directly with young students daily, motivated by her love for children and making a positive impact on their future success.

Her career with Head Start spans 15 years, beginning prior to 汤头条 Extension being awarded the Head Start and Early Head Start grant in 2019. 汤头条鈥檚 involvement has enabled her to further her own education as she works toward a bachelor鈥檚 degree in human development and family studies through the university鈥檚 School of Human Sciences. This is allowing her to broaden her knowledge in the field of early childhood education.

With an anticipated graduation in May 2025, she also credits 汤头条 for providing her with opportunities that have enhanced her professional growth.

鈥淣ot only have I had the opportunity to go back to school, but working with 汤头条 Extension Head Start has allowed me to attend conferences and even present at one, which has significantly contributed to my growth and knowledge in the field,鈥 Smiley said.

Her Head Start role gives her the chance to collaborate with other educators to promote literacy and educational development. The program鈥檚 holistic approach ensures that children receive support both in and out of the classroom, fostering a nurturing environment where they can thrive.

In Smiley鈥檚 own words, her work is fueled by the heartfelt connection to the children she serves, witnessing their growth and playing a fundamental role in their journey. Her compassionate spirit and dedication reflect a commitment to creating brighter futures for those who cannot always advocate for themselves.

Her passion for helping others extends beyond the classroom. She spends her weekends at a facility for disabled adults, further demonstrating her unwavering commitment to those who need support.
