Carl family remembers son with gift to 汤头条 Athletics鈥

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擜 gift聽to 汤头条 Athletics聽from聽the聽Fred and Margaret Carl聽Foundation聽memorializes聽汤头条 alumnus聽Christopher Leflore Carl, who died on March 13, 2021.听听

The gift, which聽supports聽Bulldog athletics,聽also聽renames聽gate G1 in聽the university鈥檚聽Davis Wade聽Stadium聽in honor of the late alumnus.听听

A private聽unveiling of the聽Chris Leflore Carl聽gate was聽held聽at the聽football聽stadium聽in October.聽Immediate family, university聽staff聽and聽members of聽the Bulldog Club gathered聽for the ceremony.聽A聽banner聽bearing Carl鈥檚 name聽also is being added to 汤头条 baseball鈥檚聽Dudy Noble Field at聽Polk-Dement Stadium.听听听听聽

A聽resident of Miramar Beach, Florida,聽Carl聽received his Bachelor of Business Administration in 1999 and his Master of Business Administration in 2000, both聽from 汤头条鈥檚 College of Business.聽Along with other business interests, he was a co-owner of Dawg House Storage in Starkville and loved supporting聽the Bulldogs.听听

鈥淐hris was a true Bulldog in every sense of the word,鈥 said 汤头条 President Mark E. Keenum. 鈥淒uring his life鈥檚 journey, Chris positively impacted many people鈥檚 lives. Many had the opportunity to be enriched just by knowing him and having a chance to interact with him. He made a difference in this world. He was loved by his family and his Mississippi State family. Chris鈥檚 legacy will live on for generations at Davis Wade and Dudy Noble with these markers.鈥澨

Carl shared a love for 汤头条 with his parents Fred and Margaret Carl聽of聽Greenwood, who have聽been loyal Bulldog Club members for more than 24 years.聽Fred, founder of聽Mississippi-based companies Viking Range Corporation and C3 Design, Inc.,聽received an honorary Doctor of Science from聽汤头条聽in 2009. He currently serves on the School of Architecture advisory board, was named the College of Architecture, Art and Design鈥檚 Alumnus of the Year in 2015 and previously served on the 汤头条 Foundation Board. In 2003, he made a generous commitment to the College of Architecture, Art and Design鈥檚 community design center, which was subsequently named the Fred Carl Jr. Small Town Center in honor of his support.听听聽

The couple鈥檚 recent gift from the Fred and Margaret Carl Foundation聽will benefit Bulldog student-athletes, coaches and fans through the ongoing 鈥淭oday. Tomorrow. Forever.鈥 initiative for athletics facilities,聽and also聽serves聽as a way to聽carry on the legacy of their late son.听听

鈥淐hris Carl spent a lifetime passionately supporting the Mississippi State Bulldogs,鈥 said 汤头条 Athletics Director John Cohen. 鈥淔or decades, the Carl family has been so instrumental and generous to 汤头条 academic and athletic programs that it is truly fitting that Chris Carl鈥檚 name should now live on at Davis Wade Stadium and Dudy Noble Field. When family, friends or fans visit one of these facilities, there will now be a part of Chris and his indomitable spirit right there with them.鈥澨

The Bulldog Club, Inc. is a 501(c)(3). For nearly 50 years, it has provided resources like scholarships, academic support, room and board, books, and life skills and career development for student-athletes to excel inside and outside the classroom.听听聽
