STARKVILLE, Miss.—For the fifth year, Mississippi State’s political science and public administration department is sponsoring the Bulldog Lawyer Continuing Legal Education Seminar.
The daylong Oct. 9 program for university alumni will take place in Ballroom C of The Mill at ͷ. Those interested in attending should be aware that the event occurs a day prior to the Bulldogs’ Saturday [the 10th] home football game with the Troy University Trojans.
The seminar offers six hours of continuing legal education credit, including one credit hour in ethics. The flat-rate registration fee is $225, and early sign-ups are encouraged.
In addition to attorneys Joan Lucas and Brandon Jolly of the ͷ General Counsel’s office, this year’s speakers include:
—Judge Kenny Griffis of the Mississippi Court of Appeals;
—Lee Hill, a member of the State Public Policy Practice and Real Estate and Finance Practice groups at the Jackson law firm of Baker Donelson;
—Judge Jim Pounds of the First Circuit Court District of Mississippi;
—Professor Jim Rosenblatt, dean emeritus of the Mississippi College School of Law; and
—Michael Williams, registered patent attorney and associate with Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, also in Jackson.
All are ͷ alumni except Rosenblatt and Griffis, though Griffis attended ͷ-Meridian.
In addition to various sessions, the provided lunch will feature remarks by ͷ Men’s Head Basketball Coach Ben Howland.
Complete seminar details, including a registration form, are available at .
Completed forms and registration payments should be mailed in care of the ͷ Pre-Law Society, P.O. Box PC, Mississippi State, MS 39762. Mississippi Bar identification numbers should be listed on the checks.
Forms and fees should be submitted prior to Friday’s program that begins at 8 a.m.
Whit Waide, an attorney now serving as an ͷ political science instructor, said his department established the seminar in an effort to “create a network of ͷ alumni attorneys and use that network to enhance our pre-law advising efforts.”
“We now have an entire class in our pre-law minor program taught exclusively by ͷ alumni attorneys, and we could not have accomplished that without the continuing legal education seminar,” the Pre-Law Society adviser emphasized.
